Is a new shoot
worth it for your Airbnb?
Weigh up a shoot using the evidence, your gallery gaps and your own costs.
Calculate your threshold- Find a specific gap
- A missing room or outdated gallery gives a shoot a useful job.
- Keep evidence in context
- Airbnb’s programme data does not predict a result for your home.
- Use retained contribution
- Compare the complete cost with what an additional stay actually contributes.

A worthwhile shoot starts with a clear job
Find the question your gallery leaves unanswered. A new shoot has a clearer purpose when guests need information they cannot currently see.
- Can they see every bedroom and bathroom?
- Does the kitchen view show what they can use?
- Can they understand the space for their group?
We specialise in Cardiff photography for Airbnb, serviced accommodation and short lets. The brief is a consistent account of the stay: natural room proportions, readable windows and useful amenity views.
Approved for Airbnb’s Pro Photography programme. Direct commissions are booked with LUMORIA.
Airbnb’s research with nearly 7,000 guests in ten countries, including the UK, identified photos, descriptions and reviews among guest priorities. Conducted in November and December 2023, it does not put a cash value on a shoot for your property. Read the guest research.
Airbnb reports a 21% earnings difference. Read the conditions.
Airbnb reports an average 21% earnings increase over the next year for hosts using its pro photography programme compared with hosts who did not. Read its 22 April 2026 hosting guide.
The footnote compares changes in dollar earnings from 2024 to 2025 across more than 14,700 programme listings and more than 62,300 other listings worldwide.
- It is Airbnb programme data. It is not a LUMORIA result or a Cardiff forecast.
- It is an observational comparison. The page does not disclose random allocation or controls isolating photography. Hosts may also change furnishings, prices or management.
- It shows an association. Photographs alone cannot be credited with causing the whole difference.
That average cannot predict your earnings, extra bookings or recovery period. It is neither an individual guarantee nor a comparison between particular camera types.
Calculate the threshold using your own business
Divide the complete shoot cost by the contribution from an additional stay. Include preparation you would only do for the photographs.
Contribution is the extra income retained after the extra costs of serving that stay. Use the same definition throughout:
- Deduct platform fees, extra cleaning and laundry.
- Deduct consumables and other costs that rise with an extra stay.
- If the guest pays a cleaning fee, count its income and cost consistently.
Gross nightly revenue is not retained contribution.
What would cover your photography cost?
Use your own quote and the contribution from an additional stay. This calculates a cost-recovery threshold. It does not predict extra bookings.
Enter your own figures to calculate the number of whole additional stays needed to cover the cost.
The formula is (photography + additional preparation) ÷ contribution per additional stay, rounded up to a whole stay. Your figures stay on this page and are not saved.
| Example input | Illustrative amount |
|---|---|
| Photography and preparation cost | £300 |
| Contribution per additional stay | £100 |
| Stays needed to cover the cost | £300 ÷ £100 = 3 stays |
Decide between a full gallery, a room refresh and waiting
- Full shoot: dark rooms, inconsistent colour and missing spaces give a replacement gallery several jobs.
- Room refresh: update a refurbished bathroom when the rest of the gallery still works.
- Wait for material changes: photograph the completed furniture, decoration and sleeping arrangements.
- Review existing files first: room assignments, a clearer cover or factual captions may solve some gaps.
For several properties, identify the gaps at each address. A strong gallery at one apartment cannot show what another apartment contains.

Buy coverage, usable files and a clear licence
Agree the rooms, useful views, minimum delivered images, finish and delivery before booking. A lower headline price can cover a different job.
Our Cardiff photographer comparison includes a written-scope checklist for any supplier.
Confirm permission for every intended channel. After final payment, a direct LUMORIA commission includes a licence to market the photographed property on booking platforms, your direct website and social. Airbnb-arranged photography has its own offer and image-use terms.
Airbnb’s host ground rules prohibit imagery that misrepresents the stay, including digital edits hiding damage or adding absent amenities. Keep furnishing proposals for planning; a live listing should show what guests can book.

Review the change without inventing a return
Keep the old gallery and record what changed. Use the views, enquiries and booking information your platform supplies.
- Record the upload date and any changes to furnishings or management.
- Note nightly price, availability, minimum stays and reviews.
- Compare periods with seasonality and Cardiff events in mind.
- Track completed paid stays and retained contribution before describing a commercial result.
A busy month can be useful business information without being a controlled estimate of the photographs’ effect.
Once you can name the gap, see the shoot price for your rooms. Use that actual quote in the threshold above.
